Show 203 " Q. And on that occasion you had to put something in the nature of a dam in there in order to divert sufficient water into your canals for your uses in irrigation? " A. Yes sir; usually when we had a little higher water, why, it would out the channel in the river, and knock down our ditches; we didn't have ditches large enough to dray the suction through, so we had to clean that bar out and divert the river to get it down there and get it in our ditch. " Q. The water was cut down to a lower level so it wouldn't flow into your ditches? " A. Yes sir, without some little dam. " Q. It was, then, not the scarcity of water, but the water level, that made it necessary for you to divert it? " A. The scarcity of water, too; it dried up so it didn't run from one pool to the other; it formed pools, but so dry it didn't run from one to the other." R. 494.
