| Abstract |
Abe Cline was interviewed five times by Leslie Kelen. Cline (b. 1895) talks about his father and grandfather, both of whom are buried in Jerusalem. He recalls various jobs held early in his life (often as salesman) and tells a number of stores about his years with the National Guard (Mexican Revolution) and the U. S. Army (World War I). He recalls his childhood and teenage years in Salt Lake, the Free Masons, doing business with Mormons, the Greek population, the Depression, France in World War I, and his feelings about Hitler, Germany, and the creation of the state of Israel. Other topics include the Cline Equipment Company, evaporative air coolers, the Salt Lake Jewish community, Rabbi Sam Gordon, his extended family, and Jewish businesses in Salt Lake. 179 pages. |

L That •as the fine art, that very delicate fly tying. AC It can be a fine art or it can be a very rough [laughs] procedure. S it all depends on the person. an Ha e~ou invented any of your own. AC Oh, sure everybody does. But, that's not -- the -- you change the pattern little bit andyou try and get alittle better results. And that's fine, you get aihot of satisfaction out of it. But to invent new patterns, ah- is not in my line .... I've - I've made different patterns there. But And i've named them. And I've given them to my guys. But they've never-- they've never produced-- Theone fly that I'm particularly proud of is an English fly. It's called a [trying to remember]. Cups Indispensible . L Cups Indispensible. AC Yes . And. they - the history of that fl~~ith me is : I was on the Teton River with one of the best guides on the river. And fish were feeding and we weren't able to get any strikes. This is not unusual for a fly fisherman. So, finally, the guide says tr~es this ------ps. And I looked at it. And $aid,"who tied that t s "He said, "Dan Bailyfrorn Livingston, Montana." It was the most looking cups I ever saw. And it so happens, of course, one thing - I learned to tie flies from an expert. I would rate him as one of the top-- |
