Show ARMY SERVICE FORCES scu #1965 HEADQUARTERS UTAH RECRUITING & INDUCTION DISTRICT 224 South West Temple Street Salt Lake City~ Utah. Miss Jane Rivers~ President, Women's Town Club, 2353 South Alta Street, Salt Lake City~ Utah. Dear ~Aiss Rivers: 6 April 1944 The War Department directs this appeal to you and to me for help at a critical stage of the war. One of the major problems of the War Department and also one of the most urgent, is that of recruiting during the next few months sufficient women to meet the needs of the Women's Army Corps. To fill jobs on the home front, to lessen the draft pressure on fathers~ and to hasten the day when victory will be ours, our Army must have immediately several hundred thousand recruits to staff the Women's Army Corps. For instance, the Surgeon General is in i~nediate need of 50,000 Wacs to help caEe for the maimed and afflicted soldiers return• ing from the battle fronts. The Army asks us to give them a hand. It is suggested that each club president appoint one member as a WAC chairman to present the program to its members, explaining the urgent need for Wacs and the desirability of joining the Corps. Each member should be instructed to submit the name of one eligible woman who would make a desirable recruit. No reference will be made to the member submitting the name of the prospect. All names will be turned in to the club president uho will forward them to the Recruiting Office in Salt Lake City. The personnel of that headquarters will use these names as prospects for their recruiting efforts. Under separate cover there will be forwarded to you information to be used by the vW.C chairman in presenting this appeal to the members. r1t.C personnel of the U. s • .Army Recruiting Office located at 224 South Hest Temple, Salt Lake City 1 Phone 4-1995, ha'fe offered to address your organization and furnish additional information at your convenience. Your personal assistance in this matter will help shorten the war thus saving the lives of thousands of our heroic American boys. Sincerely, Mrs. Junius Fisher, President, Salt Lake City Council of Women, Honorary WAC Recruiter. |
