SKETCH OP WILLI AM ALLEN William Allen , another Kay svi lle and bavis County pioneer , has been g athe red to his fathers. This (Thursday) mo rn ing he died in t he Webe r County hospit~ where he has been sojourning for the past f ew months~ . Mr. Allen had been ill for the past two year s and rema ined in his home in Kays ville until it became eviden t that he coul d recieve better care in a ho s pital. He was born in London, En gland, January 1 , 1849 , and came to Ut ah when only thir t een years of a ge . Soon after arriving in Utah he came to Key sville, and his h ome has been here fr om that time . Following the trade of his fath er, he became one of the most skilled bricklayers in the terri tory and followed the trade until he determined to be come an architect ; and not withstanding his lack of scholastic training he finished the course with t h e highe s t honors. In mas te ring the course he was compelled to study geometr y and tri gonometery and his examination p apers i n these subjects , which are still p r eserved, bear percent age marks of 98. He was at the time of his death , the senion member of the Utah Architectural Society. As an architec t, he prepared plans a nd specifications and built many of the be s t buil dings of Davis County . Among the most notabl e of his works are t he Davis County Courthouse , the Kaysville Tabernacl e , the Barnes Block , Fa r mington C. & M. building , the Kaysville grade and ~the rschool buildings, and many of t he best res i dences in the county . He was car eful and prudent in his investments and acquired a competency sufficient for his needs and the education of his chi ldreg . The wife of his y oung manhood was Mary Sims, who died four years a g o , and since t hat t ime Mr . Allen h ad steadil y failed in health .
