Elijah Norman l!'reeman He in connection with the abo"9 mentioned apostle, and a hwnber ot people, gathered on the bank ot the Ogden River and Apostle Cannon bebaptized all those wishing to be rebaptized, I being one of the hwnber. Soon I was appointed to baptize the people ot the third ward in Ogden and lat-er in the tall was called on to assist Apostle Richards in reorganizing and rebaptiz-ing the people 'Ot Slaterville, and later in the winter assisted Apostle Richards in rebaptizing the people ot Eden, Ogden Valley and a hole was cut in the borth tork ot Ogden River and t ose who entered t the water were handed in and out. I officiated in those baptisms. In the year ot 1879 April 24, I was married to Mary Ellen Farl'7, daughter ot Winthrop and ~ry Ellen Farley in the Endowment house by Daniel H. Wells, Salt Lake City, Utah. She is still living and is the mother of nine children, tive boys and tour girls, tive of which are still living, four oa our children were born in Ogden City. In the spring ot 1881 Brother Wilford Woodrutt called for volunteers to go to St • . Johns, Arizona as missionaries and I was on ot theose who volunteered. I was " sustained at the April conference and by April 25th, 1111' brother Willard and I were . /\ on our way to St. Johns, Arizona, our families being left a t home. Jitfie arrived in St. Johns June 2, 1881. Soon after arriving and getting located we (my brother "--J and I) worked on the A. & P. railraod, preparatory to sending tor our families. The tollolfing Novembe;I-" 1111' step tathe;, Lorin Farr• brought our families to Holbrook, Arizona. We met them there and conveyed them to St. Johns by team. Soon after arriving I was called to labor in the Bishopric ot the St. Johns lfard as 2nd counselor to Bishop David K. Udall, and continued in that position tor about 6 years. President Jesse N. Smith was then president ot the Eastern Arizona Stake, which was comprised of a large tract ot territory and it was deemed necessary to divide the stake, which was done under the supervision of Apostle F. M. Lyman and John Haiery Smith. |
