It i. not known that this bil·d preys upon living animals: we have seen him Jeeding on the remains of the whale and other fi sh t.ht·owJl upon the coast by the violence of the waves. This bird was ttot seen by any of the party until we had descended Columbia rivet·, below the great falls. and he is believed to be of' the Yulturc genus, although the bit·d lacks some of the cJmraoteristics, par·ticularly the hair on the neck, and the pinmage on the legs. 5.
