Show HERE ARE THREE SPECIES of the Dap/n tree, theinner barks of whichare suitable for makin paper. The three species, in probabl order ofimportanc as papermaking fiber, are: (a) Daphne cannabina, Lowi. (b) Daphne iwvolucrata, Wall.,and (c) Daphne Gardners Wall The authority for these species of the Dap/ne,and th first botanist to record them, was Dr. Nathaniel Wallich Superintendent of the Calcutta Botanical Gardens. Hi descriptions and fine engravings of the three plants origi nally appeared in a Calcutta publication of 1820 unde the heading, «Description of some Rare Indian Plants in a journal with title page reading, «Asiatick Researche ortransacions of the Society, instituted in Bengal, forenquiringinto the History and Antiquities the Arts, Sciences, and Literature, of Asia.
