McNiece, D.D., <br> 207 East Second street South, <br> Salt Lake City, Utah. <br><br> Dear Brother: <br> You have no conception how hard the times are, and how hard it is to get contributions for any special object, no matter how worthy or urgent. Wealthy friends of mine who have never said ‘no' to any application for funds for years past, have written me their great regrets that this year they can do nothing. Otherwise there would have been no special trouble in furnishing the academy and paying the salaries of the teachers. As it is I have raised $777 for the teacher's salaries out of the thousand that I was to have raised, and the larger portion is* paid in to the Woman's Executive Committee as special for that purpose and not for the thousand which they themselves are obligated to pay. I would have secured the whole thousand if I had not given so much attention to "the* furnishing fund"* for which I have knowledge of raising* $457.
