Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.
9

Territorial S. S. Association
Territorial Sabbath last Sunday in September.

Cooperation, consecration, enthusiasm. I have been writing to Sunday school teachers; I wish now to say a few words to the parents who read the CHURCH REVIEW. Have you ever asked yourselves this question, how can we aid the Sunday school teachers? Now is the time when the Sunday school officers expect the largest attendance. When the attendance is small we cannot always think it is the fault of the children. It is, I think, more often the fault of the parents that their children are not present each Sunday of the year. Parents, you can aid the teachers in the following ways:
1. By coming to the school yourselves and thus giving your children an example of what they should do. It is easier to lead a child than to drive him, far easier. A child always desires to do what he sees his parents do. Think of the responsibility you have. I wish we had more adult Bible classes in our Sunday schools. I find very few such classes.
2. Send your children regularly to the school. Do you ever enjoy a meeting which you attend once in two or three weeks or months as much as one you attend every week or month? No hardly; so with the children, a week's absence takes away the interest obtained the week before.
3. See that your children are punctual. Never let a child see the word "late" when he enters the church school room. You oblige your children to be in time at day school, why not rather have them on time at the school where God's word is studied.
4. Require your children to study the allotted lesson; study it with them. Do you know how it delights and encourages a teacher to have the pupils know the lesson? This will help.
5. Always speak respectfully of the school and teachers. How quick the children find out whether their parents care for the school or not. They are easily led one way or another.
6. Thank the teacher for what he or she is doing for your children. Many a parent has been led to Christ by the lesson taught the littlie children, who in turn have returned home and "taught" the parents. Those of you who take "Sabbath Reading" will remember some beautiful and touching stories in this line.
7. When the children return home from the Sunday school question them on the lesson. Find out what they have learned. If this is done the scholars will give better attention, cooperate with the teachers and especially,
8. If any special exercises are announced see to it that your child takes the part given. Nothing is so discouraging as to call upon a child in such an entertainment and find that the child is either not present or not prepared. Would you not be discouraged yourself? Interest yourself in these entertainments; feel pleased that your children are to take part; drill them at home and go with them to any rehearsals that are necessary. Remember this now that Children's Day is at hand and in every school the day will be a success.
9. If you wish so aid the Sunday school teacher to lead your children to Christ, go that way yourself. Do not try to shift the responsibility on to the teacher, you may "shift" the privilege, but the responsibility still remains.
10. Have family worship at home. Let each child take part in the reading of Scripture or by reciting of verses. The influence of the Sunday school will be thus strengthened and on account of what the children have learned at Sunday school the family worship will be, enjoyed to a greater degree.

Sunday School Workers.
The monthly meeting of the Sunday School Association will be held Friday evening, in the Y. M. C. A. rooms. It is to be made a primary evening so everyone will be interested. No superintendent or teacher ought to miss it. Let us realize the importance of our work and prepare to do the very best work. A pleasing program has been prepared. Will you be there? SECRETARY.
Salt Lake City

The Salvation Army hold services in their large new quarters at No. 35 Commercial Street, upstairs. Services every evening at 8 o'clock. Sundays at 7 and 11 a. m; and 3 and 8 p. m. Everybody cordially invited to attend.

Dr. Edward Everett Hale and Dr. Henry M. Field were born the same day of the same month of the same year. Both celebrated their seventy-third birthday last week and Dr. Field, in the Evangelist, pays a tribute to his twin brother: "I look upon Edward Everett Hale as one of the most fortunate men of his generation, in that in a life of more than seventy years he has kept, not only the strength of his early manhood, but his faith in goodness and in truth. He has been a preacher of righteousness, but never turned away from the people if they did not heed his warnings. Reformers as a class are not the most sweet-tempered of men, and will some times curse the generation that will not listen to them."

"We cannot ask God for much when we are not willing to do much."

|
