THE CHURCH REVIEW. <br><br> GOSPEL MEETING. <br> The meetings at the Central Christian church are progressing favorably. The house bas been full each evening. Prof. Hawes has greatly pleased the people by his singing. His solos are particularly fine. There is an excellent chorus which is doing good work. Mr. Romig is an earnest and effective speaker. His sermons bristle with points, and are pre-eminently practical. He is helping the people, both Christians and sinners to search their hearts in the light of God's word. He is courteous to his audience but is outspoken against sin. Such preaching must prove beneficial to all who hear him. There is fine interest manifest on the part of the large number of un-converted people in attendance. At this writing none have accepted Christ, but surely many are seriously considering this subject. The coming week promises a larger attendance such as will utilize all the space possible in the auditorium of this church. We shall be surprised if many are not converted to Christ during these meetings. A cordial welcome is extended by the church to come and hear these evangelists. B. F. c. <br><br> Methodist, Payson. <br> April 21st is third quarterly meeting and we expect Dr. Iliff with us and a good time both morning and evening. <br> Preliminary arrangements have been taken by the two churches to entertain the County Sunday School convention which meets in Payson shortly. <br> The Sunday school last Sunday was the largest in attendance this year, seventy-four were present. <br> Easter exercises went off nicely. All the little folks performed their parts well. The young people labored hard in securing flowers and decorating the chapel and it never looked better. That was Mrs. Hanson's Calla Lilly and surely must be the finest in town. <br> The Blackboard work was by Chas. Judson and the hand painting on the eggs by Mrs. McCaw; they are both artists. <br> The joint social of young people from Epworth Leagues and Christian Endeavor was held at the home of Wildman Murphy, Friday evening the 12th. There was good attendance and every person on the program responded except one. <br> The regular League social occurs Friday evening the 19th and the young folks are working hard on the program. Miss Katie McHatten is to read the paper. <br> Two of our young people spent Easter in the city and enjoyed it very much, but they were missed from our little circle. <br> The little grand-daughter of Father Ercanbrack came over from Goshen Saturday evening on the train expecting to spend Easter with him, but failed to find where he lived till Monday forenoon. Both were greatly disappointed. <br><br> AMERICAN FORK, PRESBYTERIAN <br> But a few weeks since we were all full of "the joy of the Lord" over the refreshing and enlargement of our little company of believers; now we are in the shadow of a great affliction in the sudden and unexpected death of one of our most esteemed and devoted members, Mrs. Ellen Binns, the wife of our elder, which occurred on the morning of the 9th inst. On the last Sabbath in March Mrs. Binns attended the services of the church in her usual health, and entered into the communion and "Anniversary" services of the day with special interest and delight. The following day the minister and teacher left home to be absent a week in attendance upon the Christian Endeavor Convention at Ogden and Presbytery at Evanston, and were never again permitted to meet this dear sister "in the flesh," her death having occurred just a few hours previous to their return. Severe as was the affliction to the family, it fell with scarcely less weight upon the entire community, and especially upon the members of the church who esteemed her very highly for her Christian character and fidelity to all the duties and interests of our mission. <br> The funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 p. m. and were largely attended by relatives and friends from the community and elsewhere. The procession to the cemetery was one of the largest that we have seen for the year, and was representative of all classes and faiths among whom she was long known as a friend and neighbor. The impressive scenes of the occasion will not soon fade from the memory of those who were permitted to witness the touching resignation with which the bereaved family committed their sorrows and their souls to the Lord, as they received the consolation of Christian faith and hope. "Equally precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints," and the life of those whom he sweetens and chastens in the translation of their beloved dead. <br><br> "Beware of the man who apologizes for sin of any kind." <br> "A righteous man needs no monument." <br> "The prayer of faith always counts on immediate results." <br> "Get salvation before you wear out your brains trying to understand it." <br> "The first step toward heaven is generally taken on the knees." <br><br>
