| Abstract |
Wayne Omer (b. 1921) details his genealogy and recalls his childhood in Holladay, Utah. He went to work for the FBI in 1941 and moved to Washington, DC. He enlisted in the Navy and begain flight training in Athens, Georgia. After being commissioned he transferred to the Marines and was shipped out to the Solomon Islands. After serving in the Pacific he was reassigned to a training mission in Santa Barbara, where he remained until the war ended. Other topics covered include serving in the Reserves, making jewelry, and working for Litton Industries. 75 pages. |

Show WAYNEA.OMER PT B R 17 20 1 WIN: Did you get out then? WAY: No. We got a thirty-day leave. First real leave we d had sine I left Florida and so I came home, had a little vacation. Bought a car. I couldn t buy a car in alt Lake a '41 Ford or Chev' . Nobody would deal. I said, "I've got cash!" I went to every lot on State Street. "The only way we' ll sell you a car is if you've got one to trade in." I said, "Look. I've just been out defending you guys and now you're telling me I can't buy a car if I got cash in my pocket, and it's sitting right there? I can't have it?" "Nope, you've got to have a car to trade in." I said, "Where do you think I'd get a car to trade in? I just got back from overseas?' "Oh, you just got back from overseas? I'll tell you what," one guy says, "Go down to OP A and, if you're an overseas veteran, or a doctor, or a nurse, I understand you can get a permit to buy a 1942 if you can find one." He said, "I think I know where one is." So I bought a 1942 Studebaker Champion. Anyway, we got back to the coast, my wife and I. WIN: You married? WAy: yeah. We got married just before I went overseas from Santa Barbara, back in '43. WIN: Oh, you did? 58 |
