| Abstract |
Wayne Omer (b. 1921) details his genealogy and recalls his childhood in Holladay, Utah. He went to work for the FBI in 1941 and moved to Washington, DC. He enlisted in the Navy and begain flight training in Athens, Georgia. After being commissioned he transferred to the Marines and was shipped out to the Solomon Islands. After serving in the Pacific he was reassigned to a training mission in Santa Barbara, where he remained until the war ended. Other topics covered include serving in the Reserves, making jewelry, and working for Litton Industries. 75 pages. |

Show WAYNE A. OMER EPTEMBER 17,2001 vanilla wafers that have been in these sealed packages open them at night and leave a few that you didn't eat. In the morning, you couldn't pick them up because they were like mush. WIN: Really? WAY: Everything gets mold. Even to this day, my old log books- which I still haveyou can still smell mold in them, because everything gets moldy. Out there, musical instruments- if you had a guitar, violin, anything like that- they fall apart. A couple of places in the New Hebrides, we did have a piano. There was actually a little stage band there for a while. We had entertainment. We saw Bob Hope, Jack Benny, and several others came through with good shows. Wonderful stuff. But the piano, to keep that, understand they had to put about four light bulbs in it and keep them burning all the time in order that it would stay in tune and it wouldn't fall apart. WIN: -What about illness? Did you have a lot of Dinghy Fever? WAY: No. WIN: Malaria? WAY: No. WIN: Yell ow Fever? WAY: No. WIN: You didn't get into that? WAY: Fortunately, I was never in a place- the guys that went up to New Ireland, and 42 |
