| Abstract |
Wells (b. 1924) talks about his childhood in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was drafted into the army in December 1942 and was sent to cooks and bakers school at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He later trained in the aviation cadet program, but was sent to Europe attached to the 87th Infantry Division, 334th Field Artillery Battalion. His service locations included France, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg. He gives his impressions of the Battle of the Bulge and combat on the Siegfried Line. 26 pages. |

TAPE No. 626 BEC: This is an interview with Bill Wells at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Today's date is January 28, 2003. This is part of the "Saving the Legacy Project". My name is Becky Lloyd. So Bill, let's start with where and when you were born. BIL: I was born in Salt Lake City, on September 21 , 1924. BEC: What was your father doing for employment at that time? BIL: My Dad worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Salt Lake, here. BEC: What did he do there? BIL: Oh, he was a workman. He drove a truck or he'd work in the bottling plant. BEC: So, he was just all over? BIL: Yes. As a kid, I got all the Coke I could drink. BEC: Where was your family living at the time? BIL: We lived on 400 East between 100 and 200 South. The houses there today are mostly gone. There are commercial buildings there. BEC: Including your old house? BIL: Yes. BEC: Do you have any brothers and sisters? BIL: I have one brother, Bob, and I have one sister, Sal. BEC: Are they both still alive now? BIL: Yes, my sister lives up on Logan A venue and Bob lives in the Canyon Rim area. |
