Show JAME PATTERSON ugu t 15, 2001 I said, "Well, you should have seen me a couple of weeks ago." So I come home. There was clothes I'd left home which I put on and they fit me just right. But then, Captain Blinkie, who was our doctor, he said, "You guys, you're going to eat this stuff, and your body's not used to it, and you're going to be sick. You're body can't handle it." Do you remember the old Power House bars? Have you ever seen them? LUK: Yes. JAM: I remember getting a Power House bar, and I ate that. Oh, man, I got sick. That chocolate. And I couldn't even smell chocolate after that. I never drank nothing. These guys couldn't wait to get into town where there was liquor and stuff and women. The camp commander says, "You don't want to go in there. These guys have still got a hatred for you. They may sound like glad to have you." Well, two of them come back. In fact, they brought them back in there sick. They drank soda pop, like Coke, or something along that line. And he said, "I tried to tell you, you don't eat nothing. If they offer you a candy bar, or soft drinks. They've got a hatred for you, and if they can kill you, why that's an honor to them." So I wouldn't touch nothing until I got on board that American ship. And there I could eat. You've heard the story that the Americans would never eat these powdered eggs. Oh, man, we thought we were in heaven when we went through. End of side 2 tape 1 LUK: Okay. So you were telling about the powdered eggs. JAM: And we'd eat that stuff.
