Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.
PRESBYTERIAN.
VOL. 3 / SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, APRIL 21, 1895. / No. 17.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN.
The subject for the prayer meeting next Wednesday evening will be, The severe trial of Abraham's faith and its lessons. Genesis 22: 1-18.
The missionary meeting conducted by the Junior Christian Endeavor society last Sunday evening was one of the most interesting meetings held in the church for a long time. The exercises were good all through and enjoyed by the people. Those who helped to organize this society and have spent so much time and labor in training the Juniors for Christian work, ought to feel greatly encouraged over the result of their prayers and labor.
The church social last Thursday evening, under the auspices of the Ladies Aid Society, was pleasant and successful in every way. The room was attractive, the attendance was large, the social part enjoyable and the treasurer made happy by the receipt of $71. All present felt obliged to Miss Maud Thorn and Professor Young for the piano duet, to Miss Royle for her beautiful solo and to Mrs. Reed and Miss Carrie Thorn for their fine recitations.
Dr. Sheldon Jackson is expected to reach Salt Lake City on Saturday, May 11th, on his way to Alaska. If he is well, he will speak in our church on Christian work in Alaska, on Sunday morning, May 12th. He is one of the most interesting speakers on the subject of missions there is in the United States.
Two of the pupils in the Collegiate Institute, Miss Katie Binns and her brother from American Fork, have been greatly afflicted in the death of their mother. Her funeral took place Thursday, April 11th and was one of the largest private funerals ever seen in that community, where she had the love and confidence of all classes of the people. Except for this affliction the daughter above named would have graduated from the Institute at the approaching commencement.
Out of the 107 members of the constitutional convention, the number who will win desirable fame by their patriotic, intelligent and high-minded advocacy of important measures, their freedom from political schemes for self-aggrandizement and their manly support of things just and right, because just and right will be very small. A few have made a most honorable record in this regard and by their magnanimous temper and bearing. Bat what chance is there to have any moral respect for men who will argue, for example by the hour, in behalf of the right, of the people to vote on woman suffrage in a separate article and then trample on their own arguments by denying that the people have any right to vote on prohibition; when the latter has ten times as much to do with the social, financial and moral welfare of Utah as woman suffrage at the present time.

WESTMINSTER.
We had a fine entertainment at the North West Sunday school on Friday evening. The children had gone to considerable trouble in preparing the room to make it look bright and inviting. The music was good, a novel feature of which was the playing on the ocarina by Mr. Holmberg.
The Ladies' Aid society will meet at the home of Mrs. Philips, 255 S. Fourth West St., on Thursday afternoon at 2 p. m., a good attendance is desired.
Prayer meeting on Wednesday evening; teacher's preparation immediately after. Teachers, contrive to be present at this study of the lesson. We all need to be ready to make our teaching as pithy and direct as practicable.
The Easter exercises conducted by the school on Sunday night were well attended, not only by the children, but by parents and friends. The arrangement of plants and flowers left nothing to be desired, and we are much indebted to those who worked so admirably at the design. We are also specially obliged to Mr. and Mrs. Ramel for sending two boxes of flowers all the way from Pasadena.

|
