PD; Uh huh. O'N: So t h a t ' s the x< Jay you would identify them, huh? PD: Um hum. O'N: I see. When you lived up in Mancos Canyon were there other Ute families up there too? PD: There x « ? ere lots. O'N: Lots of them. PD: Um hum. They owned sheep and goats and on top of there too, on both sides of that . . . O'N: Of Mancos. So did they herd on-- when you were young were they still herding the sheep and goats up on the Mesa Verde? PD: Uh huh. O'N: Clear up on top where the park is now? PD: Yah. O'N: Did the government allow them to herd there then? PD: I think so because they were up there. O'N: I see. And to the south too, huh, over on the other . . . PD: On the other side too. O'N: I see. How come we don't see many sheep and goats over there now? What happened? |
