PD: And then they-- her sisters kind of, they lived below~- you know at that time they had homes all the way from below Durango and up this way. O'N: Yes. PD: So that's x> yhere my father, you know if we would go see Sun dance or Bear dance, whatever dances they do, we used to go on horseback, on wagons ( interruption). She used to say my aunt lives over there. At that time she x^ as married to a Mexican. O'N: Um hum. PD: So probably all her children were Mexicans. So we lost our relationship x- yith our great aunt's children. O'N: They went with those other people, huh. PD: Uh huh. O'N: I see. When you lived over in Mancos Canyon x<? ere there Navajo people in the canyon too? PD: No, not this one. Just very few, just the ones that were used to Utes. You know, they used to come around and visit once in a great while. O'N: Do you remember the names of those families who used to come around, those Navajo families? PD: I don't know their English name but we used to call them, you know in our Ute we used to give them names. That's the only way we know them. |
