Abstract "In this chapter, we discuss diseases of neuro-ophthalmologic interest thought to be caused by infectious agents that have yet to be identified. The diseases described are (a) encephalitis lethargica or von Economo encephalitis (EL), (b) Kawasaki disease (KD), and (c) Viliuisk encephalomyelitis (VE). Some diseases discussed in past editions of this chapter are now covered elsewhere because of their particular neuro-ophthalmologic significance (e.g., sarcoidosis, giant-cell arteritis). Other diseases previously included in this chapter are now discussed in other chapters because the responsible infectious agent has been discovered (e.g., catscratch disease)."
