Show In the mind of architects planners and landscape architects the whole idea of "designing" is an ominous xys in steel and glass. Man's entire habitat is an xyz system described by an xyz system. The thing described is also the means of description. The model is using itself to describe itself. In contrast you couldn't describe a tree with cartesian coordinates. Through the centuries mankind has been trying to force nature into simple minded abstract patterns to suit his blindness to reality. For example Wright made this very comment on "the lilies" in the Matthew scripture. Wright said lilies were ". . .the greatest of all reference: to simplicity," (10) On the contrary the lilies are infinitel? varied along with everything else. And complex. Wright is the one who was "simple." No two lilies are the same. -22- |
