Show CONTINUMORPHIC IMPLICATIONS Modern buildings show tendencies toward spacial differentiation where walls are interrupted by deliberate continumorphic sections giving variety to an otherwise blank plane. Landscaping is established to create spacial variety through differentiation next to the blank integration of planes. The architect is subconsciously searching for the continumorph but will deny it when he sees it. CONTINUMORPHOLOGY The science or study of continumorphs and continumorphic space. Implied is a genuine discipline over the psuedo discipline of architecture. The discipline of environment which is to say environmental space. CONTINUMORPHS Any group of continumorphs in a disciplinary context in sets or in an environmental situation implying that no two are alike. This is in contradistinction from meaningless heaps of continumorphs like a pile of rocks. CONTINUUM Any living whole with unique parts like the leaves on a tree or the stars in a galaxy. Continumorphic space implies a continuum with the operation of proper mechanics. CONTINUUM MECHANICS To produce a habitable environment continumorphs must follow certain rules of order to be arranged properly in floor plan. DEAD SPACE Abstraction. Any environment modeled on geometry. DESIGN An architectural term that implies everything nature is not. One of the redundant terms referring to geometry as environment. The term conjures up the image of the landscape as a hyge Cartesian coordnate system in three dimensions. The synonym for abstraction. DETERMINISTIC In the arts and sciences all disciplines have their bias. Each holds their model of reality to be the key to a more perfect civilisation. Economists or political scientists feel that everything would be fine if we could just get our economics straightened out or the same with our politics. Since architecture is centuries behind the times it is easy to see continumorphology as the answer to all problems in this age of environmentalism. Infinite Variety theory and the continumorph is the answer to many problems but is not intended to determine the future of mankind. '-96- |
