M., wanting to take him to the hospital. "I don't know why, but I didn't want him to go, " Mama said. "If there is no change in him within six hours there is no hope for him, " Dr. Clark said, and left reluctantly. Papa watched with Mama until the six hours were up, four A. M. There was no change in Grant, unless it was for the worse, but he was still alive. In the doctor's words he would not live. "John, you go and lie down, " Mama said. He was more tired than she because he had watched beside Grant's bed for ten days without removing his clothing, catching what snatches of sleep he could. At ten minutes past the hour of doom a car pulled up and a knock came on the door. When Mama answered it was the bishop. "I came to administer to Grant, " he said. "John has just lain down. He hasn't had any rest for ten days, " Mama said, as administration required two men holding the Priesthood. "Don't wake him, " said the bishop. "You help me. You hold the Priesthood jointly with your husband, you know. " So Mama put her hands with the bishop's while he said the prayers, |
