Atiya The University of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah 84112 My dear Aziz: Forgive me for my delay in replying to your gracious letter of October 28th. The second, day after my marriage, I was hit in an auto accident and had my back broken in three places. In spite of the Injury I still continued on east to do four honorary degree convocation addresses and two university dedications. I now have a Wendell Phillips Center for Intercultural Studies at the University of the Pacific. Soon I will have a new seminary building that will bear my name. I will have some of the recent materials sent to you. I will be going back out to Arabia in January, but in the meantime I am setting up a new office here in Hawaii. This will be my headquarters, although I will be working a lot out of London, I am terribly sorry about your wife's recent hospitalization. I know what back trouble is like, so do give her my love. Do write ahead of time if you do come to Hawaii. We would like to entertain you with the best aloha hospitality. Your History of Eastern Christianity has arrived. Its a staggering volume and I congratulate you from every standpoint. I shall read it carefully. I am currently finishing a major feature story on the historical evidences of the resurrection of Jesus for Esquire Magazine taken out of my new book on the life of Jesus which I am dedicating to Professor W. F. Albright. It will be probably a year or so before the book will be completed. It is a detailed scholarly account and I know you will enjoy it very much. I also received the first volume of the Catalogue of your Arabic collection and again, I congratulate you. I always knew you were one of the greatest scholars in the world. Every year or two you remind me of this by the magnificent publications you turn out. |
