Show 25 { 4 f I v c? Dr. Wendell Phillips ilalau. Building (Suite 207) International Market Place Honolulu, Hawaii 96815 Mv dear Wendell It was a pleasure to hear from you and keep up with your news. Accept my hearty congratulations for the English Ph.D. and the Wyoming professorship. I look forward to reading your new books and ordering then for the shelves of our library. I had so much been looking forward to the Hawaii visit to see you in your setting and discuss numerous matters with you during the. outgoing spring. But circumstances forced us to return from India via Egypt again. However, most of those matters can wait until we see you somewhere in the. east or the west. One matter may he worthy of mention at present in case you are interested before the treasure trove is picked by someone. When in Beirut recently, I discovered a gentleman by the name of Mr. Fouad Matouk who had been a resident landlord in Egypt for many years. During that time as a man of means, he accumulated a tremendous perhaps unique, collection of ancient coins and scarabs together with other objects of antiquity which may start a museum in an institution of higher learning. When leaving Egypt, he managed to bring the collection with him to Beirut where he has made it available to interested parties. His address is '550 rue Georges Picot, Beirut, Lebanon." Unfortunately I have not kept his telephone number, but there will be no difficulty in locating him if you are in Beirut during your endless travels. The collection is truly monumental and you may wish to acquire it for the Wendell Phillips Institute of Intercultural Studies. Without waiting for our reunion, I decided to bring it to your attention and, as an archeologist and anthropologist yourself, you can better appraise it after viewing it, without need for my presence. I may have told you about the lecture in Sicily which I have been invited to deliver by UNESCO during next September. It will be good if you are in the Mediterranean area at the time, in which case we may cross paths. With kindest remembrances. Cordially yours» ASA:ec Aziz S. Atiya |
