Ha ~ i n gin view the ultimate removal of all the foregoing Indians to reservations already established, the following reoornmendations are made : First. That the Pah-vants and Seuv-a-xits be visited and informed that the Govern-ment of the United States has decided that they shall make their homes on the Uintah reservation, and that hereafter no goods will he issued to them at any other place, Second. That the tribes of Pai-Utes &dl be visited, and,ifpossible, anumber of the chiefs and principal men he induced to visit the Uintah reservat~enw, ith B view to their final settlement at that place. Should the commission find it impossible to induoe them to lookupou such aremoval with favor, it should then make a thorough examination into the condition of affairs on the Muddy reservation, and report the results to the Department. The same course should be taken with the Go-8iITh. The Northwestern Shoshones should he assembled to meet the commission at Fort Hall, snd, when there, their annuities should hegiven them, and they shodd be informed that the Fort Hall reservation is to be their future home, and that hereafter no annui-ties will he given them at any other place. One of your commissioners can communicate with a part of the Indians in their own tongue, and Mr. Ghheen, who is already in the servioe of the United States in Nevada, speaks the Shoshone language, but it will still be necessary to have one more inter-preter, as the cornmiasion mnst necesasrily be divided, sod three or four parties organ-ieed to reach all the tribes in one season. I t is therefore recommended that Richard Komna, s, native Ute, now a studont in Linooln University in Pannsylvanis, be empldyed far this purpose. Should these suggestions meet with yonr approval, it wonld be necessary to have the annuities for the Western Shoshones, Nor4hwestern Shoshones, and Go-si Utes placed to the orderof the commiasion. On June 26 the following instructions ware received : " , SIR: I aoknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th instant, with a statement in detail of the present condition of the Indians in Utah, Nevada, and Southern Idaho, who have not yet been collected on reservations. With a view to the ultimate removal of aaid I n d i to saoh remrvations have already been established, yyo recommend aa follows: 1st. That the Pah-vants and Seuv-e-rita be visited and informed that the Government has decided that they shall make their homes on the Uintilh reservstion, and that here-after no goods will be issued to them at any other place. 26. That some of the ohiefs end principal men of the Pai-Ute tribe he induced to visit the Uintah r servation end encouraged to make their homes at that place; and in cme it should be tonnd impassible to induoe them to look with favor upon a. removal to that point, then to make a thorough examination aa to the condition of affairs on ' the Muddy reservation and report the renult to the Department, preparation. in the mean time being made for raiaing a crop the coming year to suoh an extent as oiroum-stances will permit. 3d. That two or three reliable men he employed by the commission to oollect the Western Shoshones at three or more points, where they can he visited by the oommis-aion and their annuities distributed to them, and that they be informed of the deoision of the Department that they must go on xeservations, and that hereafter no annuities will be distributed to them exoept ab the reservation assigned to them; thesame course to be taken with the Co-ship Utes. 4th. That the Northwestern Shoshones he assembled to meet the oommiaaion at Fort Hall, Idaho, to reoeive their annuities, and that they he informed that Fsrt Hall |
