One hundred and sixty (160) aores olaimed. No improvements. Cameinta the valley I'ebrua~y 8,1873. He also was notilied that the valley was intended for a. reservation. CLAIM OF MARTHA C. TUCKER. Referring to letter of instructions, yon villdiscover that theduties of the oommis~ion were, "The objects to be obtained by thecommission are these: firat, to ascertain tho causes which hare led to the difficulties and hostilities between the Iloited States troops and the Modoos;" and, secondly, "to devise the most effective and judicious nlensnrss for preventing- the continnanoe of these hostilities, and for the restoration of pssoe."
