Show 9 There were no solemn faces now. All were smiling and Somli felt as if he would burst. He got up, ran to the pouch and pulled out the blue feather and took it to his father, "Let us give this to Coyote." Somli saw a smile on his father's face such as he had not seen before. He took the feather to the visiting father who touched it. Then to the mother and to each child. Finally, when all had felt the magic feather, Somli went /to his visitors. "Take this to your son whose legs will not move. Like Somli, he will walk again!" There were bright hopeful eyes all around the Hogan and there was a low humming of pleasure. "Then could his name be 'Blue Feather'", added Somli joyfully. The father, smiling, said, "It will be as you said." At that, his children whispered audibly. "No more Coyote - no more Coyote." The tired mother's lips moved saying softly, "Blue Feather - Blue Feather," she said over and over. Then the family turned silently to leave. Somli's father said, "There is more to do and quickly. Somli, bring the black pot with the wool blanket and give it to them. They will heat water and steam the legs and rub them. All night do this. If by morning the legs do not move, steam and rub, if it takes a week, a summer, steam and rub. Like Somli, your boy will walk!" The father with the feather in his hand led the family to the wagon. Somli and his father followed with the pot and blanket and put it in the wagon. "Let us go with them, father," said Somli. |
