Interviewed by Leslie Kelen, Harry Doctorman (b. 1919) recalls his childhood in Salt Lake City and the congregation Shaary Tzedick. He talks about the meat-packing business he inherited from his father (including comments on unions, kosher butchering, and modernization). He also talks generally about his Jewish upbringing and more specifically about his bar mitzvah, meeting his wife, getting married, and relationships with Mormons. 96 pages. |

Show OHI Harry Doctorman 3-24-86 sl:l5 LK When you think n w, •ou know,-about the future and what you still want to do or what you're hoping to see done, what is HD Now, I'm building an industrial park and 1 ~ oing to be named Doctorman's Industrial Park. Going to a big road this summer. And start building. We've got 10 or l dings therre now but these are going tobe real elegant buildings. We're working on that now. It's going- We've got the master plan oout these buildings are going to work. Thefirst thing, I've got to get the road in before I can get any more building permits. When Iget that road in, I'll pobably build 2 or 3 buildings this year. LK What about your children. Do you have any plans with them in terms of doing anything with your children. ED Well, they - they [laughs, all] they like my property - but they didn't like the meat. My son Gary, he takes all the legal work for me. On properties there. He's been doing a pretty good job for the legal work. Wife: A very good job. Not pretty good ... !! end side one begin side two LK so, as far as specific plans, practical plans with your kids, you don't really have any .. HD No, I'm going to turn all that ~operty over to them when I die. But as long as I'm alive, I'm still the boss. When I go, it will be theirs. I even put it in my will, that they an't sell anything |
