Show Ed Gerhard Returns by Larry Pattis Ed Gerhard returns to the Wasatch Front with a concert on Saturday, January 27,7:30 pm, $8 at the Great Salt Lake Guitar Company in Provo, and a clinic/workshop on Sunday, January 28, $25, 2 pm at Local Music in SLC. He is also performing on Thursday, Jan. 25 in St. George, check the "calander" section for details. Ed is truly one of the great composers and players on the "fingerstyle" guitar. He is featured on the Windham Hill Guitar Sampler album. The Boston Globe states, "Guitar instrumentalists are a notoriously self-indulgent lot, but not Gerhard. His tunes are are never too long, never filled with flash-and-dazzle that does not serve the song." Ed's playing always serves the music. He is a great interpreter of music, not just a "guitarist," and his playing can transport you through many moods during the course of an evening concert. Tunes like "The Handing Down" and "Red Mountain Serenade" just leave me speechless at their timeless beauty, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. His style often touches on jazz with unusual chord changes and string voicings. Ed is also a master at playing slide guitar in a modern, yet bluesy style.
