Show W Y FAHOtJK I UNIVERSITY Hector's Office June 21st.1949 Dear Sir, I am serry to be late in answering your letter dated March 25th.I949,but,as you know,the circumstances in this part of the world are not yet quite settled and so it takes seme time to get the necessary approval of such a project as the visit to Sinai. I am glad,hewever,to tell you that the project has been approved in principle i.e.to send a small group to the Monastery of St.Catherine to photograph s.me of its ancient manuscripts. Xou are therefore requested to send your formal application(preferable through the American Embassy at Cairo) fer the purpose,giving all the necessary details,particularly the names and designation of the members of the expedition,the equipment they will bring with them the approximate date of arrival and the period ef their stay On our part we shall delegate three members ef our staff to assist in selecting the manuscripts to be photographed. I may add also that H.E.the Minister of Education would appreciate it if it is possible to present the Eoyal Egyptian Library with some of the prints in whxch the Library would be interested. This is of course in addition to the prints that you have agreed to present to Farouk 1st .University It is also understood that you have taken the necessary steps to get the approval of the authorities at the Monastery for carrying out this project.
