Show XV Sharia Vfedl el-Hil, Maadi (""ear Cairo), EGYPT, January 3, 19 52. Bear Mrs Schiffbauer, After ?» relatively long silence, it is nice to resume correspondence with all our dear friends in America. Tou -rare good enough to send me a letter with a check last June, and then came your welcome card at Christmas, Believe me when I tell yon that you also have been in our thought all this time. I assume that my wife has written to you on the eecasion of Christmas, and she must have told you that I was ill, so ill indeed that I could not even cash your cheek and other even more substantial checks, lowaver, I seige the first possible opportunity to greet you and all our mutual friends at Taehoisa fro© T.gyist; also to tell you that I an sending your cheek to my Bank in Washington. I fear that you must have gathered a rather exaggerated impression about the situation in Egypt at the present time. Siough the English forces in the Canal sone have broken the most elementary rules of humanity and eocimon sense, the position within the country as a whole is not at all so baa. 1 trust, at any rate, that these unhappy circumstances will not last very long and that we shall be sore ready to receive you with as many American visitors ae possible next winter* Until now, there exists no ill feeling in agypt against Americans, and it is hoped that the policy of the State Department will not unnecessarily take such a turn as to ogaravate or rather create any misunderstanding between our friendly peoples. Whatever the situation may be, we still have nearly twelve hours sunshine per day. Exeent for a few cold days with some rain, the winter has not been unkind. In l>eer Kg"aetf it is consistently warm and eunny. My wife and 1 are planning to saend a fortnight there re-visiting some of the ancient historic sights and enjoying the unusually m* Id climate of those parts* By the way, yon ask me whether the journals for which you kindly subscribed on our behalf as a present to Miss Nabila Taher (im Ambroise Rally St., Alexandria, HgyptO arrive regularly. I am afraid they do not, and I have been wanting to write and ask you whether you could send them a reminder. If I remember well, they are "Seventeen" and ^Mademoiselle". But please do not bother if it is the slightest trouble to you. On the other hand, If I need any literature, I shall not resort to anyone but yourself. 'Please write us as often and as long as your time may allow. Ky wife and I will always be very happy to hear from you, and we both send you our kindest r^Mbrances and best wishes/ Tour-: very sincerely, |
