Show The Minstrels HOME OLSEN SUTTON CHE minstrels gave a little farce this year but it was wholly unintentional. In other words, the minstrel show turned out to be a farce. Mr. Anderson was elected manager and Andy certainly did his best to make it a success. After the first four rehearsals Andy was confronted by the question: "How can I be four end men, chorus and interlocutor all at once?" The men didn't show up, that was all. Whether it was due to professors, to long lab hours, or to the fair co-eds we cannot say, but the fact remains that the would-be minstrels would not come to the rehearsals. Andy dreamed for weeks of electric fountains and fine scenery and of magnificent and profitable performances before the natives of Murray and Lehi, but they were just idle dreams after all. Another sad blow to our dusky friends was in the loss of one Charles Houston. Chick is a natural born minstrel show materializer, but somehow he couldn't materialize enough passing grades on the midyear and the faculty bade him farewell. At the same time A. A. and a few loyal supporters said, "Let the minstrel show die a natural death. Amen." A 1908 STUNT ( 122 ) |
