Show DARKROOM OF THE MIND RyanGorley Architectural Studies Ryan Gorley, John Carpenter, Tom Whiting ,(AI Smith),(Julio Bermudez) (Libby Haslam) College of Architecture and Planning, University of Utah John Carpenter Architectural Studies Tom Whiting Architectural Studies A building has more power than to enclose human activity and pro-vide shelter- it has the power to create identity. Paris, for example, is inseparably connected to the image of the Eiffel Tower. The Great Pyramids of Giza have become an icon for a whole civilization. May- be no other time in our history has the connection of a building to our own identity been more powerfully felt than when the Twin Tow-ers were destroyed by terrorists. With this understanding one must ask what identity they are shaping for their own future - or possibly, what identity they are allowing another to choose for them. Should the most convenient or least expensive route always be pursued? This question must be asked because architecture is more than the enclosure of space it is the creation of identity. As images form in this darkroom of the mind the participant discovers that identity of place and architecture are inseparably connected. Faculty Sponser Albert Smith Faculty Sponser Libby Haslem |
