September 24 -t 19*06. i To Agent's "and Superintendents: By circular letter of June 28, 1906, approved by the Secretary of the Interior June 13, 1906, you were instructed how to proceed in treating applications for patents in foe simple by Indian allottees, cased on the provisions of the Act of May 8, 1906. (Public No. 149). The Act of June 21, 1906; (Public No. 258) contains many items authorizing the Secretary of the Interior, in his discretion, to issue patents in fee simple to persons named In the Act. The authority to issue these patents does not differ materially from that conferred by the Act of Hay 8. The same precautions, so far as practicable, observed in presenting cases arising under the Act of Hay 8, should be token when the application is based on tho Act of June 21, No specific instructions have been given to post a notice showing that applications of the persons named in the Act of June 21 have been forwarded; no^r is thirj necessary, as the numbor of applicants is limited, and in most cases the propriety of issuing such patents has "been reported on by some Field Officer; but all ouch applications from Indians under your charge should receive another investigation at your hands, bringing the report down to the date cf the application. Experience has shown that' a number of applications for patents in fee, under the Act of June 21 and also the Act of Hay 6, |
