HONORABLE MENTION POETRY OUR BOYS Ellen L. Tucker Rt. 1 Boi 26 Fairview, Utah 84629 Stalwarts of the Nation and our choice of manhood, Loyal to the Country they loved and for peace they stood¦ Freedom they treasured, beautiful mountains and streams, The friends they knew were part of their dreams. Some of their greatest joys were for their loved ones, Wives, Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, and Sons. How great was the love for the place they called home, Since childhood the valleys and hills they would roam. School, Prom dances, first dates and basketball. Pictures of health, bodies clean and strong. Bright hopes for the future, in their hearts a song. In the distance was heard a sound of a Bugle Call, With fear and trembling it was heard by all. The demons of hell were threatening their Country with war, With Loyal hearts they marched from near and far. They answered the call of the Country they loved, Asking for protection from the One above. They fought with great men side by side, Some falling mortally wounded; to be brave they tried. Once more their journey to their homes they come, With broken bodies and minds from the war they won. Some were left sleeping in lands far away, "These Are Our Boys." 6 |
