Title HollyHocks
Description HOLLYHOCKS Mary Louise Sorensen Mayfield, Utah Non-Professional Division First Place Poetry They look dead dry stalks rustling in the bitter wind, curled leaves blown away. Glistening drops of rain, Varm sun rays gave life again And the hollyhocks grew Once they were planted, tended, admired. As they guarded the head stones, Once they were picked To be placed on a lonely grave Or made into dolls or a crumbling garden wall. They forgave our forgetfulness. As nou, like the neglected graves. The hollyhocks struggle to survive In the lonely corner of the old cemetery. -83-
