Show PART A IMACS SITE FORM *1. State No: 42M054 On the northeast side of the bridge is an empty lot which is advertised as the "Future Home of Morgan Physical Therapy & Fitness." A sidewalk is located along the east side of SR-66. from 250 East Street. continuing south across the bridge along SR-66 (also known as State Street). The Weber River Parkway walking trail is along the north side of Weber River, beginning approximately 100 ft (30 m) east of SR-66 at a gate. A power pole is located in the middle of the paved pathway leading to the Weber River Parkway. It is located approximately 56 ft (17 m) from the edge of SR-66. A concrete box form is located at the edge of the north bank of the Weber River. A fragment of curbing and other concrete fragments are located along the north bank, farther up the bank, near the pathway to the Weber River Parkway. These concrete forms are located about 25 ft (7.5 m) east of the north side of the bridge. The exact functions of the box and other concrete fragments are unknown and mayor may not be related to the construction of the Weber River Bridge at SR-66. On the south side of the Weber River and on the east side of SR-66 is a private residence. A driveway to the residence is located just south of the bridge. A 24-in (61 cm) diameter cement pipe was located approximately 10ft (3 m) east of the bridge wing wall at the base of the bank on the south side of the Weber River to divert runoff water into the river. The pipe did not appear to be historical or associated with the bridge. Northwest of the bridge was an asphalt-paved driveway leading to a gate for the Morgan County/City Transfer Station. Southwest of the bridge, a new sidewalk and curb had been constructed, continuing south along SR-66. A private business was also located on the southwest side of the bridge with an asphalt-paved driveway directly south of the bridge. A telegraph pole, 10-01, was located along the south bank of the Weber River, approximately 71 ft (21 .5 m) west of the bridge. Since the site consists of a bridge along a major road, no datum was placed. *21. Site Condition: Excellent 0 0 Good ~ Fair *22. Photos: Site 42M054, the Weber River Bridge at SR-66, was constructed to carry traffic along SR-66 (State Street), enabling transportation along a major thoroughfare through Morgan City. The bridge retains most of its original integrity and modifications are limited to regular road maintenance. The bridge has some deterioration of the concrete guardrails and sidewalks, especially along the west side. The bridge does not meet Criterion A, as it is not particularly associated with any significant events in the history of Morgan City during the middle of the 20th century or the region. While the bridge does provide access to Morgan's main thoroughfare, State Street. and to Interstate 84 (1-84) for residents, most of whom work outside of Morgan City, it is not the only bridge that crosses the Weber River. Development of Morgan City would have proceeded without it. The design, construction, or location of the bridge are not associated with any persons of historical significance (Criterion B). The bridge does have Gothic elements in the guardrails which may be unique in style or in construction methods for the era, as Gothic Revival architecture was popular in late-18th - early19th century America (Criterion C). The bridge probably cannot contribute additional knowledge to Gothic-style concrete bridge construction techniques or to the history of bridges of Morgan City or Morgan County (Criterion 0). Based on its physical integrity and association with local and regional economic community development and transportation, and its architectural elements, AMEC recommends that Site 42M054 is ELIGIBLE for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) under Criterion C.
