Description: ------------------------------------- This site consists of one historical bridge. known as bridge number 13-262-1-2. structure number C-164 by the Utah Department of Transoortation (UDOT 1994). It is a medium-scale bridge that carries State Route 66 (SR-66: Site 42M055) over the Weber River in Morgan City. Morgan County. Designed by the Utah State Road Commission and built by the L.A. Young Construction Company in 1937 (completed in 1938). the bridge is constructed of a single 70-ft (21.3 m) steel stringer span. supported by concrete abutments, and is approximately 42 ft (12.8 m) wide. The deck is 30 ft (9.144 m) wide. The concrete abutments, or wing walls, are set at 45degree angles from the bridge, at an elevation of 83 feet (25.3 mI. and are 19-ft 1%-in tall (5.829 mI. The bridge has concrete guardrails with vaguely Gothic-profile slotted cutouts (open joints) and paneled bulkheads that consist of 140 linear feet (42.67 m) of concrete (UDOT 1994, 2005: USRC 1937). Underneath the bridge on the east side are two pipes: one 5in (12.7 cm) diameter pipe for gas and one 6-in (15.24 cm) diameter pipe for water. The gas line is at a higher elevation than the water line. Two lanes of traffic cross the bridge in both directions. The concrete cast-in-place deck has been covered with asphalt pavement on numerous occasions for periodic upkeep. The underside of the concrete deck is supported by nine steel I-beams that span the river. Each of the I-beams are 36-in (91.44 cm) high and 1-ft 21f4-in (0.3619 m) wide (USRC 1937). Sidewalks are 5-ft (1 .5 m) wide and located on both sides of the bridge with no walls separating the sidewalks from the roadway. Portions of the sidewalks on the both sides of the bridge have exposed rebar supports along the edge, showing signs of deterioration and concrete spalling. The guardrail on the west side of the bridge is spalling more than the guardrail on the east side of the bridge. The east side of the bridge is sloped lower than the west side with a Y2-in (1.27 cm) slope for everv 12 in (30.48 cm) (USRC 1937). On the south end of the east side of the bridge guard rail is a 1%-in diameter brass tag with "ELEV. 104.8" stamped on it attached to the top of the guardrail. No significant alterations have affected the bridge and it retains its architectural integrity. There has been continual maintenance of the bridge. A search of Government Land Office (GLO) survey plats indicated there was a bridge in place at this location on the 1871 map. There was no evidence of the historical bridge from the 1871 GLO survey plat observed during the survey. However, SR-66 (State Street) was located on the 1871 plat. but was unnamed. SR-66 (Site 42M055) maintains the same route as on the GLO survey plat. * Encoded data items Printed on 7/27/20072:22:57 P BlM8100-1 FS R-4 2300-2 3/90 |
