The first objective is to develop an academic programme capable of training potential arts managers and administrators. The second objective is to develop a series of practical services, such as research studies, seminars, and workshops for practicing arts managers and administrators, capable of making a contribution to Canadian cultural development. These two essential objectives are highly interrelated since the basic philosophy of the programme is to integrate academic training with the practical services and experience. The curriculum is described as follows: Under normal circumstances, two years are required to complete the Masters of Busi ness Administration (M.B.A.) with the concentration in Arts Administration. In the first year, students are required to complete ten, one semester credit courses in the Environmental Framework of Management, A ccounting and Control for Management, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics for Management, Quantitative Methods of Manage ment I and II, Behavioral Components of Organization, Behavioral Problems and Issues in Organization, Marketing Management and Financial Management. the first and second years, maximum attempts will be made to locate in arts organizations and institutions prior to their enrollment in the students prospective concentration in arts administration. This period of four or five months of summer exposure or employment is designed to provide students with practical experience in the financial, organizational, management and production problems in the arts. Between In the second year, students electing the concentration in arts administration are involved in a selection of courses, research, policy studies, and seminars. Special em phasis is placed on the arts in a Canadian setting, problems in Canadian cultural develop ment and policy, and new forms of artistic and aesthetic expression. The second year students are required to successfully complete ten, one semester courses including a compulsory credit course on Public Policy. During the second part of this course, stu dents will undertake a group policy study of an arts organization or institution. primarily from the School of Business Administration with only the any background in the arts. Students must first meet the eligibility requirements of the School of Business Admini stration, and apply as a regular student in that division. If, during his first year in this division the student demonstrates high interest in arts administration and has successfully accomplished his course work, he may then apply to the Arts Administration program.
