The developed a curriculum leading to a Master of Arts degree, which combines appropriate graduate course studies with practical business experience of an 'interning' nature with arts organizations. The School of Business currently offers specialized courses The program "has which, when added to student's solid education in cultural subjects, are appropriately suited to the training of arts administrators who must be knowledgeable and sympathetic to the need of the arts and at the same time, understand those elements of fund raising, personnel, accounting, business law, marketing methods and the like, needed in the field. a "5 program is housed in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The length of the program varies from three to five semesters, de pending on the undergraduate background of students. The degree earned is a Master of The Arts. A final thesis is to required. According to Arthur Prieve, director, enrollment is limited twenty students. There have been twenty graduates of the program as of Spring, 1974. The program's curriculum requires that classwork in economics, accounting, budget ing, marketing, organization, legal aspects, and statistics be completed on either an under graduate or graduate level before students move into arts administration seminars, three of which are offered through the School-of Business. Students select administration a minimum of thirteen credit hours of electives in the related or courses. Elective courses available include both a area of arts theatre and seminar, as well as a broad selection of other fields. According to Douglas Richards, the director of the program "was a regular member of the facu Ity at the school of management and although he had had no formal experience in arts administration, he does have a great interest in the subject." Management courses music management are taught by faculty in the Graduate School of Business and other courses by faculty members in other schools. The program requires an internship for one summer or semester, or students can intern for as long as one year. There is no credit for the internship or the required research paper. I n addition to the internship, students volunteer management aid to community and campus organizations. These mini-internships take place concurrently with classwork. There are no stipends given the students while on internship, though some organizations pay the students. or students. Internships may take place wherever they can be found by the director Admission to the program is based on the following: (1) undergraduate degree with at a 2.75 grade point; (2) letter of application indicating the reasons the student wants least administration; (3) interview with the candidate by program the director or a graduate of program; (4) admission to Graduate School; (5) Graduate Record Examination (for financial support).
