The first year is primarily introductory; the second is one on which there should be a consoli dation and comparison of theory and experience. In the third year, it is expected that a synthesis will occur of both the vocational and aesthetic studies and the experience referred to above to produce a potentially confident, professional realization. In the third year, each student will be expected to prepare a major paper on an important aspect of his experience or research in the performing arts. " All administration courses have been designed specifically for the program and are taught almost exclusively by practicing professional arts administrators, mainly from New York City. All applicants to the Theatre Administration Program must hold a bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, must submit a transcript, take the Graduate Record Examination, and submit a statement of purpose (an explanation of their career choice). Additionally, personal interviews are required. A number of professional, non-professional, and student producing groups exist in New Haven, making a variety of performing arts experiences available. However, arts administration students are urged to work with those opportunities available within the Drama School, rather than with the outside organizations. On occasion exceptions have been made for students to gain their practical experiences outside the Drama School. During the summer months, students work in summer jobs arranged by themselves. |
