Description JOHN FITZGERALD **** LEAH PHILLIPS 1787-1839 John Fitzgerald,Perry Fitzgerald's father was born about 1787, where we don'tknow for sure. J.Z. Stewart, states that Perry's mother Leah Phillips was born in Monongahela, in Wash. County, Pennsylvania, about 1790. During this period of time, groups of families moved around together. Some of the Family names in the same general area between 1790 and 1820 are: Fitzgerald, Phillips, Snodderly and others. Perry's wife Leah's mother was Barbara Snodderly whose father was likely John Snodderty listed in the census for that area. The record of Alta Fitzgerald Andrus Aylett,a granddaughter of Perry Fitzgerald gives the following information on John Fitzgerald and Leah Phillips family: John Fitzgerald, father of Perry Fitzgerald, born about 1787 died about 18*40, was baptized 24, May, 1871 endowed 17 Oct. 1884. Leah Phillips, mother of Perry Fitzgerald, was born about 1790, in Monongahela, Wash. Co., Pa. baptized 20 March 1937, endowed 31 March 1937, sealed to husband 16 Nov. 1938. Her father was Benjamin Phillips, and mother Barbara Snively or Schneble. Children of John Fitzgerald and Leah Ph:i« lips: Barbara Fitzgerald, born 12 Feb. 1812, Monongahela, Wash. Co. Pa., died 1 July 1892, never married, baptized 18 Oct. 1892, endowed 19 Oct. 1892., sealed to parents 16 Nov. 1936. Luvina Fitzgerald, born 14 March 1813, TTash. Co. Pa., died 23 March 1850, married James Lynch, Oct. 1828 ( she was 15 years old ) baptized 17 April 1937, endowed 29 April 1937, sealed to parents 16 Nov. 1938. Perry Fitzgerald, born 22 Dec. 1815, Redstone, Fayette Co. Pa., died 4 Oct. 1889, married Mary Ann Cosat, 10 Jan. 1839, baptized Oct. 1842, endowed 14 Feb. 1852, sealed to parents 16 Nov. 1938. Lurena Fitzgerald, born 25 Apr. 1819, Wash. Co., Pa., died 7 Feb. 1898, married John Nebeker, 25 Oct. 1835, baptized 1842, endowed 28 Mar. 1857, sealed to parents 16 Nov. 1938. 1790-1839 Benjamin Fitzgerald, born 1 Aug. 1820, Butler Co. Ohio, died i3 Aug. 1859 Higginsville, Ver. Co. 111., married Eliza White, 4 Dec. 1844, baptized 15 May 1937, endowed 1 Jul.1937, sealed to parents 16 Nov. 1938. From this family record we learn that John and Leah Phillips Fitzgerald were living in Monongaheia, Wash. Co. Pa. in 1812 when their first child Barbary was born and that Leah herself was born there. In 1815 when Perry their third child was born they were in Redstone, Fayette Co., Pa., and in checking the accompanying map we find that Redstone was only about 15 miles from Monongahela. By 1819 when Lurena was born the family was back in Washington County and by the time that Benjamin their last child was born they had moved to Butler County, Ohio. This was Aug. 1, 1820. From Ruth Smith Morris we get the following account of Perry Fitzgerald's parents and Leah Phillips parents; " A John Fitzgerald with wife, two sons and one daughter are on the 1810 Fayette County census in Pennsylvania in the Georges Township. This is the first possible record of Perry's Fitzgerald Family. ( There was also a John Fitzgerald Family listed in the same census as living in Luzierne Township, Fayette County, Pa. Luzerne Twp. borders on the Redstone Twp, on the west.) Either one of these John Fitzgerald could be the grandfather of Perry. Perry had an uncle named Isaac Fitzgerald also found in the census.. Benjamin Phillips, in his will and in land records, has property in Georges Twp. which is adjacent to Springhill Twp. in which he resides. In his will he refers to his daughter "Leah Fitchjerls", Benjamin and his wife Barbara Snodderly are on the Temple records with Perry and others as Proxy. The second wife of Benjamin is not. Isaac Fitzgerald, Isaac Phillips and John Snodderly are additional familiar names in census records and land records and wills concerning the 1790-1820 period when Perry's father must have been in Fayette County." Ruth Smith Morris states in h®r research that Butler County, Ohio does have positive indentification of John Fitzgerald, his son Perry and the rest of the family.John Fitzgerald, the father of Perry, bought a quarter section of land, 160 acres, one mile
