I went to grist mill and got some horses, flour to send to dairy and sheep herds and swam river going back - • as the boat was on the wrong side of' the river. In afternoon was hcme , reading, attending to different business and conversation. At ten p.m, a daughter was born to the wife of A.M.Derrick. Yester day I anointed the child of S.M Porter allover. assisted my father and G. W. ·Bailey. 10 Aug Wednesday Done some chores, picked beets for dinner read some, conversed some. and began wr1 ting a letter to my wife Elmnah. At 5 p:.m. the Son of S.M.Porter (Morias Earl) departed this life aged 1 year and months. Had a visit fran G. W Bailey and J .E.Ashcroft as teachers in evening. 11 Thursday Mailed letter to B.M.Mecham. Went over to store and bought some bleech for M. Porters childs clothes. At home in the evening, butchered beef. S.Porter & Sarah Leavitt atter. (led funeral of their grand child. 12 Friday Went into kitchen and baked bread and attended the funeral services. In the afternoon done some chores &c. Father has been ailing for sometime and is not well at all now. 13 Saturday Picked melons & divided them out 7 1/2 Ibs o the person. Booked some accts and loaded some goods and hay to send over to B. City, but the team returned with"it as the river was too higp. In afternoon went down to the river which was very high within 5 in of going into lower floor of grist mill. Got some plank out of the water. came hane and done various chores. went up the ditch and tore out some dams &c that the water might cane down the ditch and irrigate the melons. Had a wash and adrninistered to father with S.Porter and J.R.McNiel. I anointed him. 14 Sunday Cleaned up and had a shave. Visited father who is a little better. Fasted. Attended S.S. also came to meet ing but had to go out to wait upon a man who was after same vege tables. Was at home in the afternoon read and slept some. having headache. Lot Smith and J.B • Ashcroft returned from dairy this p.m, Sold some onions and melons in the evening. 15 Monday Hiver and slough very high e Worked in shoe shop 1/2 soled 3 pr shoes heeled 1 pr & done some other work there. 0 - • - . - - . - - |
