Show Carter Woman Under Under $1,000 Bonds Margaret Carter, the woman apprehended in Arizona after Sheriff Fife had been handcuffed to a tree following a chase that resulted in the death of Jaick Weston, widely hunted ' criminal, was arraigned before Preci:t:it .Justice Alvin Benson Monday and 1 entered · a plea of not guilty. Immediately following her plea a preliminary hearing was held with Jos. now of St. George defending the case and S~ott Matheson and Ellis Pickett prosecuting. At the close of the hear''ing she was bound over to the District Court on the charge of "Assault with intent to commit murder''. It is understood that Judge LeRoy Cox will hold a special session within a few days to hear the case. Bonds were placed at $1,000, b·..1.t have not been raised and the accused woman is still being held in the county jail. The defendant did not take the stand in her own behalf, but her council offered the defense that the woman 8/cted under duress of her accomplice and that the act was not done of her own volition. Sheriff Fife returned from Nevada "Friday after recovering much of the -ioot that the couple were accused of stealing over a long period of activity. \Five bags of wool were found between Pioche and Pony Springs on the ElyPioche road. The wool was that stolen ·from the Sevy ranch, four bags of which belonged to PaTley Moyle and 1 to Sevy brothers. A cache of gasoline was a.lso found near the wool. Another cache was found 85 miles ··west of ,Caliente where 7 bags of wool belonging to Mel Chaffin of Delta was -.recovered. Wha.t was supposed to have been the headquarters of the thieves was discovered 13 miles west of cali_,ente, A quantity "of loot of various kinds, gas, to'Ols, supplies, ete. was found here, .and much of it has been ,claimed by people within the terrttory -which the couple are accused of oper.a,ti'ng. The truck r~vered at the Homestake mine where ·Fife first surprised Weston and his accomplice was stolen ·from the Lehi Milling Company in ·October, 1933. Two of the empty gas tanks recovered have also been identified a;s having ·been taken firom the -company the same night, When 1000 pounds of flour was also stolen.
