Show 115 one million acres of BLM land in Utah were dropped completely from further wilderness study, or had their boundaries modified. The BLM had asked for public input, and vihen the people spoke, the Bureau listened. As for the Dirty Devil area, the Bureau of Land Management filed a lawsuit to stop Cotter Corporation's plans to "blast, raze, level or construct" new roads through the area. Later, Cotter submitted a plan to reclaim and restore to a natural condition any roads that the company would build. If BLM approved Cotter's reclaimation plan, the mining company would be allowed to work in the Dirty Devil region. Until then, they couldn't enter the wilderness study location, although they could still take out ore from the land around it. |
