" We went with the purpose of surveying any possible ones [ reservoir sites] which we ran across." R. 1492. The possible reservoir site that was surveys in the 1921 trip was at Lees Ferry, Arizona. " We had plenty of rapids through there, [ Split Mountain Canyon] kept us pretty busy." R. 1492. " Q. From then on down, what difficulty if any did you encounter? " A. Well, in Hell's Half Mile we had plenty of difficulty there, we had to portage; we carried all the equipment around; we ran the rapids with empty boats, and Mr. Loper and Blake got through without any serious trouble; I believe Mr. Loper hit his boat on a rock, and a wave set mine on top of one; they had to throw me a rope. Lees Ferry, " When we were there, there was one man living there, the water resource branch gauger; I believe his name was Cockrough."
