| OCR Text | 603 He does not know whether or not at the time of the second expedition Mr. Stanton had any interest in placer mining in and about the mouth of the Dirty Devil R. 1463. Others staked out claims but he does not remember who they were. R. 1464. He did not continue through with the survey on his second trip, but left about forty- five miles below Lee's Ferry. On that trip he lest the river on the right- hand side, being carried out unconscious, because of an accident in which he had broken his leg. When he regained consciousness he was lying on the floor of Johnson's cook house at Lee's Ferry. From Lee's Ferry he went to Winslow, Arizona, where he was put on a train. R. 1464- 1465 Re- cross- examination.( R Vol. S- pp. 1465- 1466.) On the second expedition the survey work began about six miles below Lee's Ferry and he continued until he met with his accident about forty- five miles below. R. 1465- 1466. |
