Show 609 was " to run a river traverse from the junction of the Green and the Grand [ Colorado] river through Cataract canyon and on down as far as Lees Ferry for the purpose of a proposed reservoir cite." R. 1476- 1477 In making the trip overland from Greenriver down to the Colorado River, as he remembers, the ranches and people that he saw in that territory consisted of a small ranch at where the road crossed the San Rafael River , and at the foot of Henry Mountain, " I believe there was a small ranch there." That would be approximately thirty or forty miles from the Colorado River. R. 1477 When he got down on the river [ the first trip] a man by the name of Cornelius Ekker and his boy brought the boat in; " they were the first ones we saw; and then at Hits, Utah, there was a man named Tom Humphrey," who had a small ranch there, " didn't amount to much." it was very small. R. 1478 He saw no placer miners in there and no boats carrying either freight or passengers. R. 1478 " Q. How, tell me of the trip from Greenriver, Utah, down the river, the progress of this expedition from Greenriver to the mouth of the San Rafael, tell me what difficulties, if any, you had. " R. 1478- 1479. They left Greenriver approximated the middle of September. " A. As I said before, We tried the boats tandem; they wouldn't work that way, so we tied then side by side; the boat with the motor on was tied in the middle. then the whole crew scattered around on the deck. |
