Show the Nation can be developed here in the Salt Lake Valley. Summed up, as regards Utahfs Mineral Resources and their development, the raw materials are available in great abundance. The necessary low cost electro power can be developed. As aggressive and dependable workmen as can be found on the face of the earth are available. Low living costs insure a permanent, cheap labor supply. Therefore we have here all the essentials, except low cost power, for converting our raw materials into finished products and in this connection it is well to remember that the cost here of finished fabricated copper articles should be $ 12.90 per ton less here than on the Atlantic seaboard; as also on lead products; and $ 18.00 less on zinc products for that is the freight rate per ton on these metals from here to New York. For the manufactured or fabricated article, low cost transportation routes are available, connecting the source of supply with consuming centers. Hence, the opportunity presents itself of developing industries to such an extent, based upon the use of our mineral production as raw materials, as will afford employment, not only in the factory but on the farm, to its present population and to its normal growth in population for, as has already been pointed out, Utah fully developed will furnish employment for a population large enough to consume all the food products grown within the State. This dream will come true when our material resources are fully developed with cur leaching plants, refineries, rolling mills, brass works, glass factories, and chemical works producing finished products for the transportation companies to deliver to centers of population not so favorably situated as we are. In return for these finished products UtahTs people will receive the wealth that will insure to them and to their sons and daughters, for all time to come, a comfortable and enjoyabls place* to live. - 10 - |
