There is a critical need for soil moisture sensors to be adckMdtoejdstmgSiKi^ sh^ aswdJasaiKsdfDf the addition of new sites, particularly in the H$ gh Uinta Wilderness on the Uinta River drainage where currenfly no Sno- rel sites exist Unforbmately several badly needed Sne- fei sites were removed from the this drainage after the High Uinta Wilderness area was designated in 1984. Stream flow predictions for Spring, 2002 on the Uintah River were predicted for between 30% to 50% of a thirty- year average earlier this year, brevity with hot weather approaching we are now closer to 10% to 15% of average stream flows which has created extreme economic hardship on many fanners and ranchers as they attempt to plan how to manage their limited resources. As the existing drought shuatioa is proving to be even more severe than preliminary predictkms radicated, I wonM lite of additional Sno- td sites and soil moisture sensora to more accurately predirtst IcrtetheUmtaRiverdiamageasaaexanmbwttli There ate a number of other rivers in Utah tbatwoulri also benefitgrcaoyby more attwrare stream fhw jmtfetiana.
