Sweazey,
Salt Lake City, Utah.

My dear Mr. Sweazey: -

Your letter of September 17th, in the interest of Miss Paden, has just come to my observation. The transfer effected after my departure for Alaska, and hence this letter gave me the first knowledge that I possessed of Miss Paden's present position. I suppose that our ladies, in making the transfer, had good reason for not increasing her salary. I have just inquired in regard to the matter, and I find that they hardly feel able, now, to make any addition to the salary, but will leave the matter as it is until the beginning of another year, when, undoubtedly, if Miss Paden's work in the Collegiate Institute is satisfactory, her salary will be made equal to that of the other teachers.

I trust your work is progressing satisfactorily in all departments.

Very sincerely yours,

Geo.
